ASCO Engineering & Surface Technology is proud to announce that we have officially achieved AS9100D certification, marking a significant milestone in the continued development of our quality management systems and our strategic expansion into the aerospace and defence sectors.

Our certified scope covers:

The surface enhancement and refurbishment of customer components, utilising Thermal Spray (HVOF and Plasma), Laser Cladding (LMD), Precision Machining (Turning, Milling and Grinding), Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and Precision Inspection.

For more than a decade, ASCO Engineering has supported demanding industries including oil and gas, where component integrity, reliability, traceability and consistent quality are essential. Achieving AS9100D builds on that experience and demonstrates that our systems and processes meet the rigorous quality requirements expected throughout the aviation, aerospace and defence supply chains.

AS9100D is the internationally recognised Quality Management System standard for organisations operating within the aviation, space and defence industries. It incorporates the requirements of ISO 9001 while placing additional emphasis on areas such as product safety, risk management, configuration control, traceability, counterfeit-part prevention and operational performance.

For ASCO, certification represents much more than the successful completion of an audit. It supports our long-term strategy to diversify into new high-integrity markets while continuing to invest in advanced engineering capabilities, including laser cladding, thermal spray coatings, precision machining, NDT and inspection.

Our combination of surface engineering and precision manufacturing capabilities enables us to support both the manufacture and refurbishment of critical components, helping customers improve performance, extend component life and, where appropriate, reduce the need for complete component replacement.

Achieving AS9100D reflects the commitment of the entire ASCO team and the work undertaken across the business to strengthen processes, improve controls and embed a consistent approach to quality and continual improvement.

ASCO Engineering is proud to celebrate the achievements of four team members who have successfully completed their engineering apprenticeships.

Olivia Avery, Roberts Karlson and Nathan Johnson have completed their apprenticeships in Mechanical Engineering, while Ellis Pennington has completed his Mechatronics Apprenticeship.

Olivia and Roberts completed their studies through Wigan & Leigh College and University Centre, supported by Engineering Assessor David Birchall.
Nathan and Ellis completed their studies through West Lancashire College.

Throughout their apprenticeships, Olivia, Roberts, Nathan and Ellis have combined academic study with practical, hands-on experience in a busy engineering environment. Their success reflects the commitment, technical ability and determination they have demonstrated during their training.

Apprenticeships play an important role in developing the next generation of skilled engineers and supporting the long-term future of UK manufacturing.

As part of International Women in Engineering Day 2026, ASCO Engineering is proud to recognise the women who contribute to the success of our business across a range of specialist functions.

Engineering and manufacturing rely on diverse skills and expertise, with teams working together to maintain quality, safety, efficiency and customer satisfaction. Today, we are celebrating four members of our team who help make that possible.

Becca, who works within our Quality & Inspection department, recently completed her HNC and plays an important role in maintaining the high standards expected by our customers.

Karen, from Purchasing, helps ensure the materials and services required by our operations are available when needed, supporting the smooth running of production activities.

Claire, in Accounts, provides vital financial support and control across the business.

Kelly, our Health, Safety & Environmental Manager, leads initiatives that support regulatory compliance, environmental performance and the health and wellbeing of our workforce.

International Women in Engineering Day highlights the achievements of women working throughout engineering and manufacturing, while helping inspire the next generation to explore the many rewarding career opportunities available within the sector.

At ASCO Engineering, we are proud of the contribution made by women across our business and thank Becca, Karen, Claire and Kelly for their continued commitment and professionalism.

 

Happy International Women in Engineering Day 2026. 

ASCO is proud to celebrate another successful apprenticeship completion within the business.

Over the course of Nathans apprenticeship, he apprentice has gained valuable experience across several engineering departments, developing practical skills in CNC machining, programming, machine set-up and component inspection.

Working across turning, milling, HVOF Coating and laser cladding has provided broad exposure to precision engineering and allowed him to build confidence in producing accurate and complex components.

Reflecting on his apprenticeship experience, Nathan highlighted the opportunity to continually improve his programming skills and develop his understanding of CNC machining processes as some of the most rewarding parts of the role.

He also recognised the support provided by colleagues throughout the apprenticeship and the opportunities the qualification has created for future progression within the engineering sector.

Apprenticeships remain an important part of ASCO’s commitment to investing in skills development and supporting the future of UK engineering manufacturing.

Congratulations once again on completing the apprenticeship, and we wish him every success in the next stage of his engineering career.
